Liberty District Spelling Bee

The annual Liberty Elementary District Spelling Bee took place on Friday, February 5, 2021. This year's District Spelling Bee champion is Bryn Smith, an 8th-grade student from Liberty Online School. Bryn advanced to the Region 5 Spelling Bee and placed in the top 10! Trumaine Thompson, a 5th-grade student from Freedom Elementary, was the district runner-up. We are so proud of all of our spellers and want to congratulate both Bryn and Trumaine. We are proud to have such amazing students represent our district.

In-Person Learning Classes

to Resume In-Person on February 16th

At the January 25th Governing Board meeting, the Governing Board voted to approve a return to in-person learning starting on Tuesday, February 16th. The return plan was influenced by information shared by Maricopa County Public Health about multiple data points and factors in addition to health benchmark guidelines that should be used to make decisions about in-person learning. Additionally, information was shared about the timeline for vaccine implementation to staff and availability of additional vaccines through a Point of Distribution at Buckeye Union High School District prioritized for school district employees. We are thrilled to welcome our children back to school. Mitigation strategies will continue to be used to maintain safety for children. Parents who are interested in a change in class assignment for distance or in-person learning should contact the front office. Changes will be made as class size space allows.

Before-and-After-School Care Services

Do you need child care before and/or after school?  Great news! The Before-and-After-School Programs will be starting on February 16th!  Liberty Enrichment and Academic Program, often referred to as “LEAP”, is an extended day program that provides quality, licensed child care that also enhances learning beyond the classroom. The program supports families starting at 6:30 A.M. and ending at 6:30 P.M. Click here for more information.

for August 2021

The Governing Board approved new  attendance boundaries for Blue Horizon Elementary and Liberty Elementary. Changes will impact families in the current Liberty Elementary School attendance area who live north of the Roosevelt Canal.

Click here to view summaries of the Boundary Committee meetings. Click here to view the other boundary scenarios. The meeting summaries include links to the slide decks with boundary options considered. The Board approved Scenario C as recommended by the committee for Blue Horizon Elementary: north of Roosevelt Canal, east of Tuthill Rd, and west of Citrus Rd.

The Governing Board also approved a two-year phase in for students. K-5 students will attend Blue Horizon starting August 2021, and enrollment will be expanded to include students in K-8th grades in August 2022. Students in 6th-8th grade will continue enrollment at Liberty Elementary School, with transportation.

Families in the Blue Horizon attendance area, who wish their children to continue enrollment at Liberty Elementary, should complete an open enrollment application for each child in K-5. Open enrollment applications are due by March 15th. Preference is given by the date of open enrollment application. After transportation routes are established, consideration will be given to provide transportation to open enrollment students from Blue Horizon to Liberty Elementary during the first year phasing in enrollment. Decisions on open enrollment transportation availability will be determined no later than March.
