Support Staff Wage Schedule

In February 2018, the Governing Board approved a 2% increase in compensation for teachers and support staff for SY2019 fiscal year. At a later meeting, the Governing Board approved the use of additional monies towards support staff compensation. District administration convened a Classified Wage Schedule Committee to propose and evaluate options for utilizing the additional support staff wage schedule funds. District administration requested volunteers to serve and worked to ensure that all schools and departments were represented on the committee. Not only did committee members participate in discussions, they also gathered feedback from their fellow support staff employees.

The committee met on the following dates:

August 17th - Agenda/Minutes
August 23rd - Agenda/Minutes
August 30th - Agenda/Minutes

The committee recommended an option that provided an increase in hourly rate for all employees except those who would receive an increase due to the minimum wage increase as of January 2019. Additionally, the option alleviated some compacting of the wage schedule. The Governing Board approved a revised Support Staff Wage Schedule on September 10, 2018.

The Governor and Legislature included funding in the State budget for an approximate 10% increase to teacher compensation. The district board and administration honored the intent of the State and reserved all designated funds for teacher compensation. The district sought out volunteers to participate on a compensation committee to inform the utilization of those reserved funds for teacher salary. The committee included representation of the range of teachers, classified staff, and administration in the district. Other stakeholders representing the community also participated in the committee work.

The committee recommended a model that differentiated the percentage of compensation increase to teachers tiered by years of experience in the district while maintaining a competitive wage for first-year teachers. The committee’s recommendation was confirmed by a survey of all teachers.

The Governing Board approved the recommended model for teacher compensation with the SY2018 budget on June 18th.
